Founded in 1902.
During the Tang period in China (618 B.C.) was born the kraft paper called saikushi. It was exported to Kyoto and used as decorative paper for fusuma doors (sliding doors) of traditional Japanese house. For over 100 years, Maruni keeps on making this decorative paper following this ancient technique.
MARUNI has 300 types of inherited woodblock still used for the production of decorative paper. Using this paper today as wall paper and decorative interior paper, Maruni keeps on growing and has become more and more unique. Indeed, there are only two remaining workshops able to produce this craft decorative paper. Maruni is one of them.
Technique:
Making natural paint and then manually print traditional motifs with Mokuhan (Woodblock) on washi (natural Japanese paper)
