Watabun.

Fabric

Watabun was founded in 1878 as a manufacturer of Obi (kimono belt). At that time the Jacquard weaving technique imported from France, was used for Japanese costumes. Watabun has developed the unique technique of Japanese silk weaving called Nishijinori, a technical and specific knowledge respected in Japan and abroad. Today Watabun knows no limit in the improvement and invention of Japanese manufactured fabrics techniques.

Technique: Nishijin-ori technique was born in Kyoto. It does not exist in any other Japanese community or abroad. Here are the different steps, an initial drawing of the pattern is produced by a painter, then a weaving machine expert configurates threads, the craftman sets threads and the weaving starts. In the case of the machine weaving, the production time is shortened.

Size: width 38cm ~ 64cm (varies depending on the technique)

Materials: silk, gold thread, gold leaf (gold ribbon needed to be called Nishijin)
