Founded in 1855, Okaju has the best Yuzen workshop in Kyoto. Yuzen is a luxury kimono fabric dyeing technique. Kyo-Yuzen (Yuzen in Kyoto) uses a brush on one canvas and is unique in the world.
Okaju is historically recognized as an excellent kimono pattern dyeing workshop using the traditional technique. It is also known by its technical fuzzy dyeing technique. Okaju is famous for its rich collection including the original designs of the famous 17th century Japanese painter, Jakutu Ito, inspired by nature.
Today, Okaju reproduces dyed kimono fabric and produces accessories using these original patterns.


Technique: Kyo- Yuzen (stencil dyeing or hand dyeing), Japanese Kimono fabrics traditional dyeing with brush, developed in the 17th century.
